Facilities

Pakenham is located at the eastern end of the Main Street level crossing, with station access from Railway Avenue.

The station consists of an island platform, with a large pebblemix building at the Flinders Street end of the station. The building houses an enclosed waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located inside the waiting area, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins, as well as a myki ticket vending machine. Stabling facilities are located south of the station.

History

Pakenham Station first opened on 8 October 1877,[1] as one of the original stops on the Melbourne-to-Sale railway line, although the whole line was not completed until 1879. In 1970 the station buildings were replaced with a new pebblestone structure and in 1975 suburban services were extended to the station. Boom barriers were provided at the Main Street level crossing in 1986.[2] It was upgraded to a Premium Station on 15 March 1996.[3] In 2004, the local council issued a proposal for the redevelopment of the current station.
